What is Civil War Letter: Shoemaker about?

Shoemaker describes to his friend Henry Bitner his experience being captured at the Battle of South Mountain and imprisoned, including an arduous 8-day march with little food and no medical care when sick in Richmond, before finally being paroled and sent to Annapolis; while wanting to provide more details, his health has not fully recovered to allow for extensive writing.
