The biogas plant in Ballytobin, Ireland was established in 1999 to satisfy the energy needs of the local Camphill community while making a positive environmental impact. Slurry from local farms is co-digested with food waste to produce biogas, which fuels district heating. The liquid and solid digestate outputs are used as fertilizer or compost. The plant employs local people and was the first of its kind in Ireland.
