What is Morning Smoking Risks and Cancer about?
Smoking within 30 minutes of waking increases cancer risks. A study of over 6,000 people found those who smoked within 30 minutes of waking had 79% higher risk of lung cancer and 59% higher risk of brain cancer than those who waited over an hour. The risks were still elevated but lower for those who smoked 31-60 minutes after waking. Researchers believe morning smokers have higher nicotine and toxin levels in their bodies and may be more addicted than smokers who wait after waking.
