The Indus civilization was one of the earliest urban cultures of the Indian subcontinent, first identified at Harappa in 1921 and Mohenjo-daro in 1922. It comprised two large cities and over 100 smaller towns and villages spread across much of modern-day Pakistan and northwest India. The civilization was literate, with an undeciphered script, and engaged in agriculture and trade.
