This document summarizes a study on modifying bismuth oxide (Bi2O3) with antimony oxide (Sb2O3) and its effects on the properties of zinc oxide (ZnO)-based varistors. Small amounts of Sb2O3 were added to Bi2O3 and this modified Bi2O3 was then added to varistor samples in quantities of 1.0-0.1 mol%. The best results were found for 0.3 mol% modified Bi2O3, which showed the highest compatibility with a mathematical model of 100% conductive grain boundaries.
