About this document
Understanding the Factor Theorem by Paula Fana is a document available to read on EtoBox.
The factor theorem states that if a polynomial p(x) is divided by (cx - d) and the remainder is equal to zero, then (cx - d) is a factor of p(x). Conversely, if (cx - d) is a factor of p(x), then the remainder is equal to zero. To factorize a cubic polynomial, one finds a possible root c/d by trial and error, confirms it is a root using the factor theorem, divides the polynomial by the linear factor to get a quadratic, and factors the quadratic.
