About this document

Blood Sugar Regulation Pathway Diagram by monte is a document available to read on EtoBox.

Body cells take up more glucose when insulin is released from the pancreas in response to rising blood glucose levels. The liver then stores excess glucose as glycogen, lowering blood glucose levels until the stimulus for insulin release decreases. When blood glucose levels fall, the pancreas releases glucagon which signals the liver to break down glycogen and release glucose back into the blood to restore homeostasis.
