This study tested the hypothesis that reactive oxygen species (ROS) mediate alpha-1-adrenergic receptor (α1-AR)-stimulated hypertrophic growth in adult rat ventricular myocytes. The authors found that norepinephrine (NE) stimulation of α1-AR increased intracellular ROS levels and induced manganese superoxide dismutase mRNA.
