1. The crystal structures of two N-methylated tricyclic quinolones with antimalarial activity were determined. 2. Compound 1 crystallizes in the triclinic system and compound 2 crystallizes in the monoclinic system. 3. Both molecules are essentially planar and contain extensive networks of hydrogen bonds. The antimalarial activity of the compounds seems to be related to the formation of intramolecular N-H···O=C hydrogen bonds.
