The Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act allows the Lieutenant Governor in Council or the Premier to declare a province-wide or regional emergency if immediate action is needed to prevent harm or damage. An emergency declaration by the Premier lasts 72 hours unless confirmed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council.
