- Five passengers died in a fire on a train traveling between Carlisle and Glasgow in Scotland on June 8, 1950. The fire broke out in the second coach of the 11-car train as it was climbing Beattock Summit. - Within 3 minutes of passing inspection, smoke was seen pouring from the middle and rear of the second coach. The train stopped within 20 seconds and the rear of the second coach and front of the third were engulfed in flames. - All five victims were found dead in the fourth compartment of the second
