This document discusses the role of hypoxia-independent up-regulation of placental HIF-1α gene expression in preeclampsia (PE). The study found that in mouse models of PE induced by angiotensin II type 1 receptor agonistic autoantibody (AT1-AA) or the inflammatory cytokine LIGHT, HIF-1α mRNA and protein levels were elevated in the placenta in a hypoxia-independent manner.
