What is Overview of Leptotene in Meiosis about?
During leptotene, each chromosome appears as two thin threads called chromatids within the nuclear envelope. In zygotene, homologous chromosomes begin to align and fuse through synapsis. During pachytene, the sister chromatids separate from each other, making the chromosomes appear thicker. Crossing over then occurs as localized breaks in DNA lead to exchanges between non-sister chromatids of homologous chromosomes.
