About this document

How the Caliph is Appointed in Islam by محمد تانزيم ابراهيم is a document available to read on EtoBox.

There were three main methods by which the caliph (ruler) of the early Islamic state was appointed: 1. Election by senior religious and political figures (ahl al-hall wa’l-‘aqd). For example, Abu Bakr and Uthman were elected this way. 2. Appointment by the previous caliph. For example, Umar ibn al-Khattab was appointed by Abu Bakr. 3. Seizing power by force. While not ideal, caliphs who took control by force were still obliged to be obeyed if they ruled according to Islamic law.
