Ganjifa or Ganjife cards originated in Persia and India and were predominantly found in royal courts after the formation of the Mughal Empire. There are two main types of Ganjifa cards still made in India - those from Mysore, Karnataka and those from Puri, Orissa. The Puri decks use Pattachitra, a traditional religious cloth painting art. Puri decks feature suites depicting stories from the Ramayana and Dashavatara, as well as birds. Ganjifa decks can have between 4 and 16 suit colors and feature depictions
