What is Preface about?

As a result many people expressed interest, 193 of whom finally participated in the meeting (not including temporary visitors from nearby) . The participants represented 16 countries from Europe, Africa, North and South America, and Oceania . The conference was organized round the main theme "Space partition in aquatic ecosystems", dealing with temporal and spatial heterogeneity and dynamics, diel vertical migrations, migratory behavior, habitat variability, research approaches, etc. Manuscripts selected by the Scientific Committee and finally proposed for publication were revised for language and style by the editor and several anonymous reviewers to whom the editor offers his grateful thanks . We hope that this volume will make a useful contribution to the knowlege of space partition by various organisms in marine and freshwater ecosystems . As with the first symposium [published in Hydrobiologia 207 (1990) and Developments in Hydrobiology 62 (Fluxes Between Trophic Levels and Through the Water-Sediment Interface)], it was possible to publish the contributions of the second in Hydrobiologia and as a hardbound edition in its series Developments in Hydrobiology .
