It is a true honor to provide this tribute to my good friend, colleague, and past president of the AOSSM, Duane G. Messner. I hope to do justice to an esteemed career focused on service and being a complete sports medicine physician. Dr Messner passed away on January 31, 2021, at home with his family. He was 90 years young. Born on April 18, 1930, into the Great Depression on a farm in Jasper, Minnesota, he grew up understanding the importance of hard work, taking care of those around him, and family.
