He studied Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of todz and obtained two M.Sc., one in Mechanics and a second in Mathematics. In 1985 he received his Ph.D. from the same University where he became a Professor and subsequently the Head of the Division of Dynamics. Professor Kapitaniak is one of the best internationally known names in nonlinear dynamics and chaos applications with more than 100 papers and 10 books to his credit. He is also a well-known chess expert and has written many books on this game. He is married to Margaret (first on the right) and has one son. xi
