What is GERD Prevalence in Opera Students about?

A study evaluated the prevalence of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) among 30 vocal opera students using a non-invasive salivary test, Peptest™, revealing a significantly higher prevalence (96.67%) compared to a control group of 20 medical students (30%). Despite this high prevalence, only 50% of the opera students reported experiencing reflux symptoms. The findings suggest that vocal opera students are at a high risk for developing GERD, which may impact their professional singing careers.
