The Department of Health in Central Visayas reported 3 deaths from rabies in the first quarter of 2010, despite conducting public education interventions. The deaths occurred in Carmen, Cebu, Toledo City, Cebu and Mabinay, Negros Oriental. A DOH nurse said most cases were from dog bites and half of victims were school-aged children.
