In the beginning, Lumawig, the Great Spirit, created people by cutting reeds and commanding them to speak. He created the first man and woman in different places so they spoke different languages. Lumawig then taught the people how to obtain resources like salt and pottery. He gave salt to the people of Mayinit when they followed his directions, and pottery to the people of Samoki when they shaped the pots well.
