What is Stray Dogs about?
The study examined 46 stray dogs in Fortaleza, Brazil to identify gastrointestinal and ectoparasites. Nine parasite species were found, including five endoparasites (one protozoan and four helminths) and four ectoparasite species. Analysis of intestinal contents found four helminth species infecting most dogs. Examination of feces detected parasites in most dogs but was only sensitive for detecting one helminth species. The study found these stray dogs carry many zoonotic parasites posing a risk to humans.
