This study investigated the methane production potential of 26 different feed ingredients using an in vitro gas test. The ingredients were grouped based on their nutrient composition and grains produced the highest levels of methane, followed by brans and hulls, oil meals, and roughages. A multiple regression analysis found methane production was positively correlated with crude protein and N-free extract levels, but negatively correlated with crude fiber and ether extract levels in the feed ingredients.
