Stimuli-sensitive Implant Materials by Lendlein, A. is a Medicine article available to read on EtoBox.
What is Stimuli-sensitive Implant Materials about?
The maximum wall shear stress on the valve leaflet was 190 dyne/cm 2 for the ATS valve and 240dyne/cm 2 for the SJM valve. Platelet stress accumulation along pertinent trajectories indicated that, during forward flow no platelets experienced a stress accumulation higher than 35dynes/cm 2, the threshold for platelet activation (Hellums criterium). During regurgitation flow 0.81% of the platelets in the SJM valve experienced a stress accumulation higher than 35dynes/cm 2 compared to 0.63% for the ATS valve. Conclusion: These numerical results confirmed that the different design of the ATS and SJM valve leads to different valve leaflet excursion, but with little impact on transvalvular pressure differences.
