What is Japanese Cinema Encyclopedia: The Sex Films about?

No other book published in the West has ever presented such a complete and fascinating view of Japanese erotica. After three years of exhaustive research, viewing and cross-referencing, the newest volume in the "Japanese Cinema Encyclopedia" is here, chronicling the pinku eige films (a common label in Japan for erotic movies, meaning "pink film") released theatrically in Japan over the past four decades. But these films are not pornography, not-withstanding the book's subject matter. The Japanese people are very strict regarding what is permitted in films. These films tease more than arouse. The Sex Films is an extensive 600 page volume, with A-Z listings, highlighting Japanese erotic films released theatrically from 1962 through 1998, featuring reviews, plot synopsis and performer and director filmographies.
