What is Sherman Antitrust Act Overview about?

The Sherman Act was passed in 1890 and aims to protect trade and commerce from restraint via monopolies, price fixing, and anti-competitive business practices. It declares any contract or conspiracy that restrains interstate or international trade to be illegal and punishable by fine and imprisonment. The Act also prohibits monopolization and attempts at monopolization of trade between U.S. states and with foreign nations. It gives U.S. courts jurisdiction to prevent and restrain violations of the Act.
