Alejandro Sánchez was born in Madrid, Spain in 1968 and grew up in a musical household where his father played guitar professionally. He learned to play guitar at age 7 but his playing frustrated his mother who broke his guitar. He was exposed to flamenco music as a child in Andalusia and intended to become a flamenco performer but found the teachers too strict.
