This conference paper discusses the improvement of seismic performance in integral abutment bridges (IABs) through the use of novel isolators made from recycled tyre-derived aggregates. The proposed solution addresses issues related to soil interaction and pressures on the abutments during thermal expansion and seismic loads, allowing for longer IABs with reduced maintenance. Laboratory tests and finite element modeling demonstrate that the isolators significantly decrease backfill settlements and abutment
