What is Understanding Chloroplast Functions about?
Chloroplasts are organelles found in plant cells and algae that carry out photosynthesis. They contain chlorophyll molecules which capture sunlight and convert it along with carbon dioxide and water into oxygen and sugars like glucose. The chloroplast contains an inner and outer membrane that surround the stroma and stacks of thylakoid membranes called grana, where photosynthesis takes place. The thylakoids are kept separated by stroma lamellae to maximize sunlight absorption. Photosynthesis produces sugars
