About this document

Science Inquiry and Nervous System Insights by Ralph Rezin Moore is a document available to read on EtoBox.

1) Neurons are the basic structural and functional units of the nervous system, consisting of a cell body, dendrites which receive messages, and an axon which transmits messages away from the cell body. 2) The axon of most neurons is covered by a myelin sheath, formed by Schwann cells in the peripheral nervous system and oligodendrocytes in the central nervous system. 3) The myelin sheath speeds up nerve impulse transmission and protects the axon.
