What is Plasma Treatment of Kapton Film about?

Kapton films were treated with seven different plasmas to modify their surface properties. The plasma treatments, especially with NO and NO2 plasmas, made the Kapton film surfaces more hydrophilic, as shown by lower contact angles. Analysis of the treated film surfaces via IR spectroscopy and XPS revealed that the plasma treatments led to the modification of imide groups on the Kapton films into secondary amide and carboxylate groups, changing the surface chemistry.
