We greeted the CBMI 2021 attendees with the following welcoming address: We are delighted to welcome you to Lille (virtually) for the 18th International Conference on Content-Based Multimedia Indexing. It is with great regret that we had to take the difficult decision to switch from an in-person to a fully virtual event. Nonetheless, we hope that the attendees have a wonderful time at the conference. We are very proud to welcome virtual visitors from both France and abroad and we are delighted to be able to include in the proceedings such high quality papers, posters, and demonstrations. CBMI 2021 contained a best paper session, three themed oral sessions, and three special sessions. Additionally, eight poster papers and five demonstrations were presented. CBMI 2021 maintained its European focus, with 39 of the 43 total accepted submissions originating from European researchers, and four originating from outside of Europe. The accepted contributions represent the state of the art in multimedia indexing, covering a diverse range of topics, including: Multimedia Content Analytics, Machine Learning, Applications of Multimedia Analytics.
