LT codes are a new type of erasure code called rateless codes or universal codes. They allow encoding symbols to be generated on demand and the original data can be recovered from nearly the minimum number of encoding symbols needed. Encoding each symbol requires average O(ln(k/δ)) operations and decoding requires average O(k · ln(k/δ)) operations, where k is the number of input symbols.
