The Acceptable Quality Level (AQL) refers to the maximum number of defects allowed in a sample from a production lot. There are six common AQL levels used in apparel manufacturing from 1.0% to 10%. Defects are classified into four categories from critical to slight. The AQL is used with inspection sampling plans to determine if a lot passes or fails quality inspection.
