The 5E model is an instructional model for teaching science that consists of 5 phases: Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate. [1] It was developed in 1987 based on earlier research on effective learning cycles. [2] Each phase has a distinct purpose - Engage piques student interest, Explore allows hands-on exploration, Explain facilitates discussion, Elaborate applies concepts, and Evaluate assesses understanding. [3] Sample teaching strategies are provided for each phase.
