What is Pozostał ból : wspomnienia o moim życiu w Polsce about?

Memoirs of a Jew born in Sosnowiec in 1924. The Herszkopf family had seven children. Describes the Nazi occupation, followed immediately by anti-Jewish violence, murder, burning of the synagogue and, later, the establishment of the ghetto and deportations. After the great deportation in August 1942, ca. 15,000 Jews remained. Herszkopf's family built a bunker under their house but later moved to the "Aryan side" and hid in the cellar of a Polish family. When they had no more money, they had to move to another place. They were discovered by the Nazis and deported to Auschwitz. Only Paula survived because she was able to work in Auschwitz. Towards the end of war she was sent to the labor camp in Langenbielau, Silesia. After the war she lived in Łódź; in 1946 she moved to München, and in 1948 to Canada where she had an uncle. But as she could not study there, she returned to Poland in 1952. She married Szymon Gruber and had a daughter. Describes the antisemitic campaign in Poland in 1967-68, which caused the family to leave Poland and settle in Holland.
