This document presents a sliding mode fuzzy controller with PID tuning (PIDSMFC) for brushless DC motors. The PIDSMFC combines the robustness of sliding mode control with the good response of PID control and uses fuzzy tuning of gains. A simulation in Matlab/Simulink shows the PIDSMFC approach has minimum overshoot and transient/steady state errors compared to a conventional sliding mode fuzzy controller, demonstrating improved effectiveness for controlling motor speed.
