1. The Press Council of India has censured 33 newspapers for issues like paid news, inaccurate reporting, publishing obscene content, and breach of journalistic ethics. 2. In response, the Directorate of Advertising & Visual Publicity (DAVP) has suspended 13 newspapers that were on the DAVP panel from receiving government advertisements for 2 months. 3. DAVP has also decided not to empanel the 20 newspapers not currently on the panel for 2 months, even if they otherwise meet the criteria for empanelment.
