What is Ketamine about?

Ketamine reduces hypoventilation compared to saline during sedation for breast surgery. In this randomized controlled trial of 54 patients undergoing outpatient breast lumpectomy, patients receiving ketamine had a shorter duration and severity of hypoventilation as measured by transcutaneous carbon dioxide levels above established cut-offs, compared to those receiving saline. Secondary outcomes including respiratory rate, sedation time, and need for airway maneuvers were also improved in the ketamine group.
