Myasthenia gravis is a neuromuscular disorder where the immune system produces antibodies that block communication between nerves and muscles. It causes varying degrees of weakness in the muscles that control eye and face movement, chewing, talking, and swallowing as well as those in the neck, shoulders, arms, and legs. Symptoms are typically mild at first but can worsen with use of the affected muscles and improve with rest. There is no known cure, but treatment aims to improve muscle strength and function
