This study investigates the role of B cell maturation antigen (BCMA) in the survival of long-lived bone marrow plasma cells (PCs). It demonstrates that BCMA is essential for PC survival, as evidenced by impaired survival in BCMA-deficient mice and the supportive effects of BLyS and IL-6 on PC longevity. The findings highlight the molecular mechanisms underlying the persistence of humoral immunity through the survival of bone marrow PCs.
