What is Understanding the Relational Model about?

The document discusses the relational database model. It notes that the relational model is used by major commercial database systems, has a very simple design, allows for querying with high-level languages, and can be implemented efficiently. The key aspects of the relational model are that a database contains relations (tables) made up of rows and columns, each with a name, type, and value. A schema defines the structure and an instance contains the current data.
