Originally published in 1952 this is the biography of the service life of the RNVR Officer and Submarine Commander Edward Preston (Teddy) Young DSO DSC & Bar MID (1913 – 2003), who went onto become a well respected graphic designer, book publisher and Author after surviving the war. His best known nowadays for designing the cover scheme used by Penguin Books from the 1930s onwards and for drawing and creating the original 'penguin' logo the company still uses to this very day.This work covers the time from his enlistment in the Royal Navy in 1940, through to his discharge from the service in November 1945 at which point he returned to his prewar career. During the war he served with distinction within the RN's submarine service and saw sea duty throughout the world. Starting as a junior officer on board HMS H28 patrolling the North Sea in 1940, he rose through the ranks to eventually command his own submarine and was the first RNVR officer to do so in the war.
