## Welcoming a new member of the IJSL editorial team After many years of dedicated work Nancy Dorian has asked to be relieved of her duties as IJSL's editor for the section on "small languages and small language communities". It is with considerable regret that her request has been received and accepted, for she has been a true and faithful steward and symbol of a section which quietly constitutes the heart and soul of IJSL. Lest this be considered more hyperbole than fact, it should be pointed out that small languages and small language communities constitute the "miners' canaries" of the world's language scene. They are the first to suffer and the last to recover when their equilibriums are disturbed. They are the most sensitive bell-weathers of sociolinguistic well-being and should be doubly treasured accordingly. When Nancy Dorian decided to withdraw from editing SLSLC, I asked her to suggest a suitable replacement. She has done so and has nominated Emily McEwan-Fujita. Anyone that fits Nancy Dorian's standards of exactness, ingenuity and enterprise is obviously a worthy addition to our team.
