The alkyli,';ocyanobenzoates 1 (a: CNC,H.L-CO\_,Me-4; b: CNC,H4-CO\_,Et-4; c: CNC,H4-CO-z\_Me-3) were prepared. Reaction of [ Fc( T/s-CsH~)CI(COhl with la,b in refluxing benzene, followed by ion exchange with NH,~PF, in acetone affords the complexes [Fe(1f-CsH~)(CNC6H4-CO:R-4)d[PF,] (2a,b). The complexes [Felz(CNC,H4-CO\_,R)41 (3a-.c). [CoI\_,(CNC6H~-COzMe-4). d ( 4)and [ PdI2(CNC,H4-COzMe-4)2 ] (5) form in the reactions of the metal iodides with the respective isocyanides. The .solid state structures of 3b, 4 and 5 were determined by X-ray crystallography. 3b: space group P'2~/c, a = 9.042( I ), b = 17.424( I ), c = 13.417( I ) .~./3= 90.92( ! )°,
