What is Don't Break My Heart about?

This is a teen romance short story. Riley Coleman had dated Nick Stevens all through high school. They were about to get engaged. But Nick had accepted a football scholarship to Michigan State, which meant he'd be moving out of Fairbanks, Alaska four the next four years. Riley was devastated, knowing a long distance relationship never worked. Her mother was a prime example, since her father got a job in Texas before he married her mother and she never saw him again. Riley was sure that it was over. But Nick kept reassuring her he'd be back for Thanksgiving. It was a promise he aimed to keep.Meanwhile when Riley asked her mother why she never contacted her father to tell him she was pregnant, setting off a tirade in her mother. Her mother started drinking and when Riley spent the night out with Nick. Her mother accused her of having sex and trying to get pregnant to keep Nick home. Now Riley was not only losing a boyfriend she dearly loved, but her mother had turned on her too!
