What is Two-Dimensional Nanomaterials for Solar Cell Technology about?
This chapter is devoted to the theoretical study of the electronic, optical and photovoltaic properties of semiconductor nanomaterials which arouse a great deal of interest for solar cell technology. The calculations carried out throughout the present study are part of the framework of density functional theory, using abinitio methods. The electronic and optical properties of siligraphene monolayer in pentagonal phase are investigated by employing the augmented plane wave method. It is shown that SiC 2 monolayer has a semiconductor behavior with moderate gap energy. Furthermore, It is found that the studied system exhibits high absorption peaks and low reflectivity in the visible region. Additionally, using Henry's graphical method, it is found that the maximum photovoltaic efficiency of two-dimensional siligraphene is comparable to that of monocrystalline silicon widely used in solar cell technology. These results indicate that two-dimensional nanomaterials are strong candidate for the future generation of photovoltaic solar cells.
