What is Overview of Apodiformes Birds about?

This document discusses the classification of birds in the order Apodiformes, which traditionally contained three families: swifts, treeswifts, and hummingbirds. However, in the Sibley-Ahlquist taxonomy, Apodiformes is elevated to a superorder and hummingbirds are separated into their own order, Trochiliformes. With nearly 450 identified species so far, hummingbirds comprise the second most diverse order of birds after passerines.
