In the last years the use of immediately loaded dental implants has increased significantly in clinical practise. These implants can be equipped with artificial denture without a long-lasting healing stage. The healing process depends on the mechanical loading of the bone and the surrounding tissue and in particular on bone quality and the geometry of the implant. It was the aim of this study to analyse the biomechanical behaviour of immediately loaded implants in experimental and numerical simulation. A total of 20 implants of the type Ankylos ® (Dentsply-Friadent, Germany) in the dimensions A9.5 to A14 (diameter 3.5 mm, length 9.5-14.0 mm) and B9.5 to B14 (diameter 4.5 mm, same lengths) were inserted into pig's jaw bone segments. These specimens were loaded with occlusal forces of 100N in a high precision opto-mechanical setup, and the resulting deflections of the implants were registered. Subsequently the specimens were scanned using a ~tCT (SkyScan 1072) and the geometry of each specimen was reconstructed threedimensionally using a self-developed programme (ADOR3D).
