The study evaluates the diagnostic accuracy of arterial blood gases (ABG), peripheral venous blood gases (pVBG), and central venous blood gases (cVBG) in critically ill patients. Results indicate that venous blood gases cannot reliably replace arterial blood gases due to a high rate of inconsistent diagnoses, although they may predict arterial blood pH values. Ongoing analyses will further investigate the accuracy of cVBG compared to pVBG against the gold standard of ABG.
